PROCLAMATION FOR WOMEN'S HEART WEEK February 1-7

Sample Language:

  • Whereas startling numbers of women die annually from heart and blood vessel disease, affecting 3 out of 5 women; and

  • Whereas although it is the leading cause of death for women there has been no research on this deadly disease as it affects women; and

  • Whereas while the death rate for men with cardiovascular disease has steadily declined over the years, the death rate has been increasing in women; and

  • Whereas the diagnositc tools and treatments to battle heart disease have been developed for a man's heart and are far less effective for a woman; and

  • Whereas statistics reveal twice the death rate for a woman suffering a heart attack, twice the wait for a woman in the emergency room with chest pain, twice the incidence of a second heart attack within the first two weeks, two to three times the death rate after coronary bypass surgery are attributed to women, and up to ten times the death rate may be expected for her after angioplasty;

    Now therefore I, _____________________________________, Governor of the state of _______________________ do hereby join with the Women's Heart Foundation's effort to improve outcomes for women with heart disease and do hereby proclaim February 1 – 7 as Women's Heart Week in (your state) and ask everyone in healthcare and our citizens as a whole to recognize the importance of establishing medical treatments and gearing research projects to help in the cause of women’s hearts, which are different.

    Given under my hand and the Great Seal of the state of __________________ this (date) in the Year of Our Lord, and of the Independence of the United States (number of years of independence of the United States).
