Trenton, NJ - The red dress will prevail for the third consecutive year in New Jersey this February as public and private partners unite to educate women about their number one killer: Heart Disease.

"We are so pleased to be able to provide this free luncheon event for women where they can enjoy a social day out together and also become informed about women's heart disease", said Bonnie Arkus, Women's Heart Foundation executive director.

"This is a great opportunity for partners to come together and share a common goal of reaching out to women about their risks," said Doreleena Sammons-Posey, director of Chronic Disease Management at the NJ Department of Health and Senior Services. "There are many health factors that contribute to heart disease. That's why we are expanding our partnerships this year to include the American Diabetes Association, the American Dental Association and other partners."

Planned is a heart-healthy luncheon, a red dress fashion show, presentations by health experts and blood pressure screens. Exhibitors will be onhand to offer health information and discount jewelry sales will take place with 100% of the proceeds to benefit the Women's Heart Foundation's wellness and prevention programs.

Heart disease is the leading cause of death for women aged 35 and older. Cardiovascular diseases kill more women than the next 14 leading causes of death combined and have killed more women than men every year since 1984. The red dress is the national symbol for heart disease awareness in women.

The luncheon will take place Saturday, February 23 at the Trenton War Memorial in the George Washington Ballroom. The luncheon is free. Pre-registration is required as seating is limited to 300.
