POINT RADIO DELIVERS CRITICAL HEALTH MESSAGES FOR WOMEN'S HEART WEEK PROGRAM

Local retailers join in with contests, prizes

the POINT Independent Radio Station

Trenton, Jan 20, 2012 -- THE POINT Radio has decided to join forces with the Women's Heart Foundation to benefit women's hearts. According to Jeff Guerin, marketing agent at The Point Independent Radio Station, FM 104.7 in Vermont, retailers have plans to offer gifts, prizes and giveaways in commemoration of National Women's Heart Week.

"We are rewarding listeners, at the same time, joining an important awareness campaign about women and heart disease with promotion by local retailers" said Jeff. This year marks the Women's Heart Foundation's 18th annual Women's Heart Week Feb. 1-7.

"The radio station wants folks in Vermont to know about the Women's Heart Foundation and its mission of prevention and wellness", said Jeff. "Women's Heart Foundation is unique as a charity that implements prevention projects in schools to reduce risk factors in kids. They are making a huge difference in teen health and even reversing some of the unhealthy trends with the obesity epidemic" he said.

The Women's Heart Foundation has been working at Trenton Central High School instituting its Teen Esteem Health and Fitness program for the past 8 years with an intervention gym-alternative and tracking system to monitor risks to provide for early intervention, making full use of school health resources. (For more information about Teen Esteem, go to Teen Esteem).

"This is a great collaboration" said Bonnie Arkus, WHF Exec Director. "The WHF worked with preparing critica health message for The POINT to reach it vast audience. Having retailers involved with a contest and offering prizes furthers the value of what we are trying to say and do: help people to take charge of their own heart health," she said. The array of gifts to listeners includes:

  • A pair of Brooks running shoes from Podo Shoes on Railroad Street in St. Johnsbury
  • Individual year memership to Kingdom Trails in East Burke
  • 3-month membership to The Club at Old Mill in St. Johnsbury
  • A pair of Tubbs women snow shoes and poles from The Village Sport Shop in Lyndonville
  • Gift Certificate for 5 yoga sessions at Heart Space Yoga on Railroad St. in St. Johnsbury
