Trenton, NJ, January 10, 2006 Music, food demos,
heart screenings and family fun are all being promoted with a
statewide Rally and Expo for Women's Hearts February 4 from 1:00 pm ot 5:00 pm
at the Trenton War Memorial. The program is in association with
the American Heart Association Go Red for Women - Love Your Heart campaign,
the New Jersey Chapter Delta Sigma Theta and the New Jersey Department
of Health and Senior Services. The Women's Heart Foundation
is coordinating a special mother-daughter program in collaboration
with the National Heart Truth project who provided a grant to the Foundation
for this event to take place.

The event represents the first time ever that three national campaigns
have merged: The American Heart Association's Go Red for Women,
the NIH Heart Truth project and the Women's Heart Foundation
  Women's Heart Week.

To commemorate Women's Heart Week nationally, the Women's Heart
Foundation is promoting the 10,000 Steps Program be launched by governors in all 50 states.
The Foundation will be offering a limited number of incentive gifts
to those able to stick with the program for 12 consecutive weeks. The
WHF will be distrbuting prizes at its annual Mother's Day weekend
RUN FOR YOUR HEART event, to take place this year May 14 (Mother's Day) at
the Mercer County Park in New Jersey. The organization is working
with the Trenton Central High School for promoting the 10,000 steps locally
and with New Jersey Curves® for Women as state partners, along with
the states Health and Wellness campaign initiative, under the
New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services Office of Chronic
	Disease Management.

According to the Cooper Institute for Aerobics Research,
walking at least half an hour, six days a week, can cut mortality
rates from heart disease in half. Experts agree that walking
about four miles a day can optimize health. Demographic studies
reveal that, while the occurence of diabetes in the U.S.A. is
soaring, the rate is going down in Manahattan and the average
New Yorker walks four miles a day. Ten thousand steps is equal
to about 4 miles, based on the average person's stride of 2.2 feet,
	 measured from toe to heel.
